St. Patrick’s Day Festivities
If there’s one thing Quebecers and the Irish have in common, it’s a love of celebration and a certain flair for turning an ordinary day into a full-scale festival running from March 17 to 28!
In Quebec City, this Irish heritage is celebrated in grand style, starting with the legendary Défilé de la Saint-Patrick de Québec, which takes place on the final Saturday of the program. Expect green (lots of green) lively music, smiling faces, and perhaps even a few spontaneous dance steps.
But the festivities don’t stop at the parade. Younger participants can go on a leprechaun hunt with the rally La Magie des Farfadets. Adults, meanwhile, can “study” whiskey at purely educational tastings or try their hand at Gaelic football or hurling.
Add to that special menus featured in several bars and restaurants, and the experience is complete. Whether you have a shamrock in your ancestry or simply the desire to celebrate, Quebec City is waiting for you.
Sláinte!

A Visit to the Sugar Shack• Île d’Orléans
Here, spring means maple season!
And a visit to the sugar shack isn’t just a suggestion, it’s a time-honored tradition, almost sacred. My recommendation? Head to Île d’Orléans, just 15 minutes from downtown Quebec City, to experience it in all its splendor.
At Cabane à sucre Familiale, they don’t do things halfway. For 40 years, the Létourneau family has carried on the tradition with passion.
On the menu? A true old-fashioned feast: steaming ham, baked beans, omelets, crispy pork rinds, all generously drizzled with maple syrup, as it should be. And of course, the legendary maple taffy on snow.
You’ll also witness maple syrup production in action, from the tubing system to the traditional wood-fired evaporator. And like any sugar shack worth its salt, the experience ends with music, lively entertainment, and a few dance steps to help you digest in rhythm.
Restaurant La Bûche • Old Quebec
If you’re looking for a place where calories don’t count, where richness is a philosophy, and where good cheer is part of the menu… look no further. La Bûche is the ultimate destination!
Here, there’s no talk of delicate small plates or timid portions. We’re talking about generous, comforting local cuisine: hearty tourtière, pâté chinois, and homemade pets-de-sœur. And what about my personal favorite…the famous onion soup, simmered in a red wine broth and topped with 1608 cheese, melted to perfection? Just thinking about it makes my mouth water.
Add to that a lively atmosphere, a good-natured tavern-style décor, and a 100% Quebec welcome, warm, playful, and sincere, and you have the most authentic culinary outing in Old Quebec.
